The renowned American Ballet Theater (ABT) will present to the audience of Summer Nostos Festival a curation of exquisite choreographies extending from classical masterpieces to contemporary works.
The American Ballet Theatre is considered one of the greatest dance companies in the world, revered as a living national treasure since its founding in 1939. In 2006, by an act of Congress, the American Ballet Theatre became America’s National Ballet Company. Though located in New York City, the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) annually tours the United States – performing for more than 450,000 people every year – and is the only major cultural institution to do so.
In 2013, ABT launched Project Plié to expand its diversity and inclusion efforts, while also raising awareness of the lack of racial and ethnic diversity in the classical ballet community. Through targeted efforts, ABT provides scholarships, training and internship opportunities to young dancers, teachers and arts administrators of color. The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is a proud supporter of the Project Plié program.
At the Summer Nostos Festival, ABT will present a variety of classical and newly commissioned works, from Giselle of Ethan Stiefel and Johan Kobborg, to Carmen, choreographed by Marco Pelle, inspired by Bizet’s opera.
