Bill Frisell Trio
The renowned Bill Frisell Trio, one of the most recognizable and influential ensembles in contemporary jazz, led by the legendary American Bill Frisell on electric guitar, with Thomas Morgan on double bass and Rudy Royston on drums, will perform live at the St Paul's Sessions 7 at the "Ioannis Despotopoulos" Amphitheater of the Athens Conservatoire.
Born in 1951 in Baltimore, USA, Bill Frisell has established himself for decades as one of the most innovative and versatile musicians, masterfully bridging various musical genres, from jazz and Americana to ambient and experimental music.
Known for his unique guitar sound, often accompanied by effects and loops, Frisell creates an atmosphere filled with emotion and depth. His compositions combine intricate melodies, improvisational passages, and cinematic harmonies.
Bill Frisell has released a multitude of significant albums, many featuring his renowned trio, which serves as the ideal medium for exploring his distinctive sound, blending melodic sensitivity with improvisation and harmonic collaboration among the members.
The Bill Frisell Trio consists of American Thomas Morgan, a double bassist with exceptional sensitivity and profound harmonic understanding, showcasing an extraordinary musical connection with Frisell. Completing the band is fellow American Rudy Royston, a drummer known for his expressiveness and versatility, who adds a dynamic yet nuanced approach to the drums, enhancing the group's synergy.
Among the trio's most important releases is the album "Small Town" (2017), recorded at the Village Vanguard in New York and released by ECM. This album highlights the trio's ability to reinterpret classic themes, such as "Wildwood Flower" and "Goldfinger." The follow-up album, "Epistrophy" (2019), also on ECM, continues in the same vein, featuring jazz standards and covers, including the titular track by Thelonious Monk and the traditional "Red River Valley."
The Bill Frisell Trio is a cornerstone of contemporary jazz and music in general. Their exceptional technical mastery and innovative approach have established them as one of the most influential ensembles of our time, inspiring both audiences and musicians alike.
At the Ioannis Despotopoulos Amphitheater of the Athens Conservatoire and the St Paul's Sessions 7, Bill Frisell on electric guitar, along with his renowned trio featuring top-tier American musicians Thomas Morgan on double bass and Rudy Royston on drums, will deliver an unmissable musical experience where melody meets improvisation, and art transcends boundaries in an intimate setting.
