A special tribute-concert honouring world poetry in Greek song is coming to the GNO Alternative Stage at the SNFCC, featuring distinguished vocalist Rita Antonopoulou and experienced pianist and orchestrator Yannis Belonis. The concert titled All the Voices in the World will be held on World Poetry Day, Thursday 21 March 2024, at 20.30.
Rita Antonopoulou's voice and Yannis Belonis piano accompaniment render into sound the meanings of words passed down to us by renowned authors, tapping into our collective, veiled sensibilities. The unassuming combination of voice and piano guarantees the clear communication of the meanings of the text, allowing audiences to effortlessly grasp the authors' original thoughts.
Works of some of the greatest literary figures of the past two centuries (Neruda, Hikmet, Brecht, Lorca, Mayakovsky, Heine, Bukowski etc.) translated by some of the most esteemed Greek poets (Ritsos, Elytis, Gatsos, Rotas etc.) and set to music by the most prominent representatives of Greek song (Theodorakis, Hadjidakis, Mikroutsikos, Leontis etc.) will have the chance to enchant the audience at the concert of 21 March, a date which coincides with the first day of spring, a symbolic landmark of the triumph of light over darkness.
