In collaboration with the "Atrapos" Unit for Adolescents/Young Adults of the Greek Organisation Against Drugs (OKANA), El Sistema Greece, the organisation Exelixi Zois, the street journal Schedia, and Kinoniko EKAV (Hellenic Social Welfare Assistance Unit).
The Greek National Opera's Learning & Participation Department in collaboration with British Council welcome once again Drum Works, the groundbreaking team from East London, to Athens. Drum Works return to complete the workshops cycle that was abruptly interrupted due to the pandemic last spring.
During their new visit at the Greek National Opera at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Drum Works will conduct a series of inten sive percussion workshops (16-18/9), in which rhythm and movement will bring together diverse groups of children, young people and educators. The workshops will be delivered in collaboration with the "Atrapos" Unit for Adolescents/Young Adults of the Greek Organisation Against Drugs (OKANA), El Sistema Greece, the organisation Exelixi Zois, the street journal Schedia, and Kinoniko EKAV (Hellenic Social Welfare Assistance Unit).
Drum Works use percussion as a means for reinforcing creativity, individual and collective empowerment, and communication. Over the last years, through a series of participatory activities they have been steadily building safe and inclusive spaces for expression and creativity, regardless of each participant's music skills and education.
The sui generis percussion orchestra that will be created as part of the educational workshops will compose its own music and will present it live in a unique percussion celebration event on the Greek National Opera Alternative Stage at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center on Sunday 19 September 2021.
Admission is free upon priority vouchers that will be distributed one day prior to the event via ticket services. To enter the venue, audience members need to present a valid certificate of vaccination or recovery from COVID 19, along with an ID or passport. All necessary health protection protocols will be adhered to.
