Arnolphe is a mature man who longs to be happily married but is haunted by the fear of being cuckolded. He thus selects a girl from a poor family, four-year-old Agnès, raising her away from the world to become a naive, obedient and faithful spouse. The years pass and the day comes when Arnolphe decides to make Agnès his wife. She, however, falls in love with a young man, Horace, who reciprocates her feelings...

Alexandros Mylonas returns to directing with a cast that subverts expectations and promises an evening of uninhibited comedy. The School for Wives, a landmark work in the global repertoire, was performed for the first time in 1662 in Paris, at the Palais Royal Theatre, scandalising audiences with its portrayal of female rebellion in the name of love and openly criticising the patriarchal system of the time. But where do we stand four centuries later?
