YELP danceco.
no matter how quiet
4-5-6 & 14-15-16 June 2024
PalmTree-MCA @ 9:30 p.m.
YELP danceco.'s new production no matter how quiet brings into view the creative process itself, as well as the artists' work towards a performance.
Our point of departure for no matter how quiet was Yvonne Rainer's dance performance and Robert Morris' art installation of the same title- "Continuous Project Altered Daily". Both pioneering works, in dance and sculpture respectively, were presented in March 1969 in New York City and both brought to the forefront the process of an artistic work, rather than the product.
In no matter how quiet, four dancers (Konstantina Barkouli, Yannis Tsigris, Ioanna Apostolou, Angeliki Stellatou), a visual artist (Filippos Vasileiou), a percussionist (Iakovos Pavlopoulos) and a choreographer (Mariela Nestora) work, explore, discuss and raise multiple questions on artist's work, collaboration and the relationship of contemporary life with art, dance and the body. What kind of thoughts are voiced from the dancers' voices that we don't often hear, What happens in the rehearsal process which usually precedes the performance and what is the need to make a clear distinction between these two? How do we perceive dance, what kind of assumptions and preconceptions interfere with our experience?
What if,
starting today, we stand up, dust ourselves off and dance.
Dance with the thought that our bodies communicate, that our bodies think.
and to believe a bit more in the relation between life and art.
To create cracks and to speak out loud, no matter how quiet.
Produced by YELP danceco. with the financial support
of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

YELP danceco.
YELP danceco. was founded in 2000 and is based in Athens. Choreographer Mariela Nestora, has created over 22 productions and collaborations to date presented: Athens Festival, Onassis Culture Centre, Kalamata International Dance Festival, MIR festival, etc. The contemporary dance group YELP danceco.' s artistic work evolves through a conversation between theory and practice- exploring encounters of dance and choreography with other fields of knowledge, mainly philosophy, biology, performing arts theory, natural sciences. Formulating practices and choreographic tools for each creative process, yet always approaching the body as a whole - movement, perception, presence and active thinking. Nestora's work often experiments with the viewing condition: renewing the predetermined relationship with the audience, choosing non-theatrical or public spaces for her performances and inviting audience participation. The intention is to create an experience that raises questions, shifts perspectives and sensitizes the perception of the body. YELP's work has been presented in Greece (Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Kavala, Volos, Chania, Hydra) and abroad (England, France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Estonia, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia), has received grants from the Ministry of Culture and has been commissioned by the Patras Theatre, the Patras Cultural Capital, and the Onassis Culture Center.
