Music Documentaries at the SNFCC: Cinema with the volume turned up!
Cinema and music have long gone hand-in-hand - even before the addition of sound to film. And if it's pictures that usually steal the show, cinema has given music an entire cinematic genre, musicals, and paid tribute to its creators through musical documentaries that have their own dedicated audience and raison d'être.
The Beatles in India (2021)
An exclusive historical account of the great love affair between The Beatles and India, which began over half a century ago. Rare material, recordings and photographs, testimonies and comments by researchers, along with material from the location scouting at this far away land, bring the journey of George, John, Paul and Ringo back to life, tracking them from the glamour of their fame and their lives in the West to a remote monastery in the Himalayas, where they retreated in search of the spiritual wellbeing that gave rise to an unprecedented burst of creative songwriting. This is the first major research into how India determined the evolution of the world's greatest rock band and its groundbreaking contribution to bringing together two dramatically different cultures.
