The Sound of Music (1965)
A nun from Salzburg is hired as governess to the seven children of a widowed Navy officer in 1938. None of them anticipates the changes that love and the Third Reich will bring into their lives. A favorite Broadway musical of 1959 turns into a cinematic legend, breaking every single box-office record. It was the first film that broke the 100-million-dollar barrier, displacing Gone with the Wind. Nominated for 10 Oscars, it took home half, for Best Film, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Sound. It’s a great opportunity to brush up on the lyrics of The Hills Are Alive with the Sound of Music!
Directed by: Robert Wise
