The Domna Samiou Folk Music Association and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center present the Third Meeting of Youth Folk Ensembles, following the unmitigated success of the previous two meetings, where more than 350 young musicians in bands and choirs came together to give heartfelt and moving performances.
More than one hundred young instrumentalists and vocalists take their inspiration from the personality of Domna Samiou and the priceless legacy she left behind to bring the sounds of tradition into the present day.
Sometimes with performances that follow faithfully in the footsteps of the master singers and musicians of the past, and sometimes with a mood for experimentation, ingenious adaptations or even brand new compositions, the participating youth bands comprise an intriguing and multifaceted musical mosaic, representative of the colorful picture that is the Greek traditional music scene of today, and of the way local traditions interact with the traditions of neighboring nations, as well contemporary musical trends.
The artistic director is acclaimed instrumentalist Sokratis Sinopoulos, who was Domna Samiou's close associate until the end of her life.
