A joyful dance performance by Tsiko with love

"Tzamia Krystalla", a new space dedicated to performance in Metaxourgeio is launching its first season with the performance "Tsiko" by choreographer and performer Antonia Economou. The performance will take place on the ground floor of the venue, located at 10 Agiou Orous Street, Metaxourgeio, and will be presented for three shows on the 27th, 28th, and 29th of September 2024.
ARTISTIC NOTE:
TSIKO, a joyful dance performance by Tsiko with love, is an unceasing exploration into the nature of falling and the profound disruption it evokes. In this piece, a body-evoking the primal essence of an insect-undergoes a haunting metamorphosis, gradually aging and evolving into a human form answering to the name of Tsiko, who strives for uprightness. Yet, even as he rises, he is perpetually on the brink of collapse. Tsiko is born into a world shaped by others, a "dusty" world that existed long before his arrival. He had no hand in its creation, no say in its design-everything around him was crafted by those who came before, without ever seeking his consent. The ascent of "man" is depicted here as an inescapable descent-a fall from grace, a decline into decay. Within this solo, Tsiko is caught in a relentless struggle, bound by norms and rules, and governed by loss, separation and imperfection. The performance challenges the audience to confront the tension between rising and falling, growth and decay, freedom and confinement, sadness and joy.

Short bio:
Antonia Economou is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative pursuits encompass dance, choreography, directing, and performance. Her work delves into themes of decadence, decay and the complex labyrinth of the human mind, often blurring the lines between reality and imagination. Through the lenses of representation, performativity and moving image, Antonia has developed a practice that spans across dance theater pieces, site-specific performances, short films and audiovisual works. Her stage is often likened to a canvas or a window, offering glimpses into fantastic realities. She also works as an art and movement director and content creator in collaborative projects. Her recent dance theater piece, ATITLON (2024), received critical acclaim and sold out performances in Athens and her upcoming short film SCOTÓMA has been selected at the World Film Festival in Cannes and in film festivals worldwide.
