A local community appears to be the ideal place to live: unemployment is low, and growth is steady. Indeed, everything is going well apart from one troubling detail that no one wants to acknowledge: the area's sole waste processing plant is polluting the air and water, putting everyone's health in danger. The female mayor decides to revoke the plant's operating permit, going head-to-head with a corrupt and male-dominated establishment that conspires against her. But she is portrayed in the media as a threat, the courts turn against her, and the truth is twisted beyond recognition. How can this skulduggery be brought to an end?
Konstantinos Vasilakopoulos offers a fresh take on Ibsen's classic work, setting the play in today's Greece. Maintaining the psychological insight and sociopolitical critique of the original, it reexamines some fundamental questions. Why do we turn a blind eye in the face of corruption? What happens to those who stand up to the majority? And how can one fight for justice in an unjust world?
